How to Mulch
Remove grass and weeds from the base of your tree before applying mulch. This can be done by applying Round Up or Zero weed killer to the weeds and grass only. Annual weeds can be controlled by cutting them close to the ground and covering with a layer of wet newspaper and then applying your leaf mulch directly over the top. Most leaf mulch that is available is not given long enough to compost prior to being sold. It is therefore suggested that you apply 100gms of blood and bone per square metre of mulch that you will be using. Most importantly, the layer of mulch around your tree should be 50-100 ml thick and should not come into direct contact with the trunk or stems of your trees and plants.
